Hi my name is Annie and I've been riding for a few years. It's changed my life. Horses teach you to trust and learn to be trusted, to be patient and to commit.
Research shows that horseback riding can be therapeutic for all ages. Sadly, the equine ecosystem is not representative of the world around us. The sport notoriously has excluded many people of color and people of lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
I'm working to change that! As an executive who has worked at the intersection of diversity and business for over a decade, I'm fundraising to set up a summer camp and lessons throughout the year for children who couldn't otherwise afford and haven't been exposed to this magical sport.
I'm partnering with a horse rescue facility to provide this camp. They specialize in education for campers, and do world class rehabilitation for horses rescues from traumatic situations. This camp runs 100% on donations from generous people like you!
My camp is called Camp L'Ouverture, named after Toussaint L'Ouverture, the Haitian revolutionary who was also an avid horseman. Representation matters everywhere.
Our mission: provide access to horses and equine therapy for children who have been historically marginalized/typically do not have access to horseback riding.
Our goal:
Gift the power and benefits of horseback riding to kids-empowering them to learn key skills like independence, patience and sport.
Create an inclusive and psychologically safe space for kids of color and kids from low socioeconomic backgrounds to learn and thrive.
Donations help to fund:
Full 2 weeks of camp for 8-10 students
Daily classes on equine care and rescue
lessons post camp, including transportation
2 expert instructors
Boarding support for lesson horses
Grain for horses
Donation to Hidden Pond Equine Farm
A $65 dollar donation provides 1 lesson for a camper. A $325 donation provides lessons for 5 days for 1 camper. Please consider giving today!
Let's ensure that all kids get to experience the magic of horses. Any gift helps!
